Description
Madder Root (Rubia tinctorum), the rose madder, common madder or dyer’s madder, is a herbaceous perennial plant species belonging to the bedstraw and coffee family Rubiaceae.
Madder root is a perennial known for producing a natural red dye from its roots. Used since ancient times, the alizarin pigment in the roots provides shades of red, pink, and even brown, and it is still used in fabric dyeing today.
